Advice for Beginner YouTubers…
I will definitely create a whole other video discussing and busting the myths about starting your YouTube channel but for now, I am just discussing a handful of mistakes I made while launching my youtube channel in 2020. Since I am still fairly new, it’s appropriate that I can give some relevant advice for beginner YouTubers.
Self-Learning
The COVID-19 pandemic gave me the opportunity to take several courses and learn so much about blogging, Instagram and YouTube. Let’s face it guys, the future of work is continuous learning. Because I took time to invest in myself, I began to niche down even more and created several videos on local travel, road-tripping and glamping. I got the opportunity to explore the country I grew up in while sharing it on the World Wide Web!
HOW TO START YOUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL IN 2021
Tip #1 – Choosing the Right Equipment
One of the most common obstacles of YouTubers is what kind of equipment to use! The point is that you want to create content and give value as much as you want. You can create content with whatever you have! When I started my YouTube channel, I just used my iPhone. The point is to just get started and later on you can get new equipment. You already have the tools you need to start! Just get started!
Tip #2 – Choosing Your Niche and Channel Name
There’s no right or way but my advice is to incorporate keywords from your niche into your channel name. YouTube is the second largest search engine on the internet after Google. So, you must incorporate keywords from your niche into your channel name. You really need to niche down, and get as specific as possible! If you’re going to talk about travel, fitness, food, photography and all sorts of things, YouTube and your audience will be confused. Choose one area and become the expert in that niche. That way you’ll increase subscribers and views!
Tip #3 – Have Realistic Expectations when Starting Your YouTube Channel
I was a victim of this myself. When you want to be a content creator, you look at other people in the industry. You can easily get discouraged when you see how far along another content creator is. Remember, they have done a lot of work to get where they are! Most YouTubers don’t have patience, but patience is really, really important. You also need to be consistent, but patience is key before you can monetize your channel. Just keep producing content that is valuable, and forget about the money at the beginning. Instead, focus on your WHY. Your why must be more important than money. Eventually, the money will come, but in the beginning, you need to be consistent and focus on giving as much value as possible!
Step by Step How to Create Your YouTube Channel in 2021 and Launch Your First Video
- Have a Google or Gmail account. You will need this to start a YouTube channel.
- Go to Youtube and create a channel
- Customize your channel! Build a logo and pictures for your YouTube channel. Then, within the YouTube studio, you will upload a channel trailer. Aim for one minute long about what your channel is about and how you’ll keep your audience captivated. I urge you to create your channel trailer before you start your channel!
- Create a feature video for returning subscribers. If I’m a subscriber and returning to your channel, what video do you want me to watch?
- Create your brand – Create your profile picture, banner image, watermark, and add a logo for your videos. I use Canva to create these beautiful graphics.
- In the basic information tab, add a description of your channel plus add your URLs to your social media platforms, contact information and your website (if applicable)
- Change your custom URL when you hit 100 subscribers!
- Now it’s time to upload a video! Go back to your dashboard and click “upload video”. Go to your hard drive and upload the video!
- Add a title and a description of 5000 characters. Use all 5000 characters! The more the better for SEO purposes
- Create a new playlist
- Do not skip the tags area! These are different from hashtags, these are the keywords or phrases that your audience is searching for on YouTube. This is how people find your videos!
- Create up to 5 cards. This allows your audience to watch more corresponding videos on your channel.
- Then, save and your video is published!
